Why don't you:

Read a Good Book Stop by your local bookstore (some of my favorites in Seattle are Elliott Bay Books and Left Bank Books) and escape into another world like "The Diving Pool" by Yoko Ogawa, a trio of Japanese novellas about obsession, love, fertility and an overall sense of dark humor. Some other good reads are: "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson, "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" by Junot Díaz, "Candy Girl" by Diablo Cody (screenwriter for Juno), and "The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe" by J. Randy Taraborrelli.

Faux Fur I absolutely love vintage shopping... a woman I work for gave me some fur coats of hers that she no longer wanted. I have never owned a fur coat before— and honestly didn't know how I felt about owning fur...I love cute, fluffy animals too much— but I have to tell you, I can't take them off! They go great with a flashy dress and heels, or just over jeans and an over-sized sweater. Take a gaggle of girlfriends and seek out fun vintage shops which run rampant with fur (both real and faux) this time of year.

Snapshot Go to some of your favorite local parks, restaurants, cafes, monuments etc. and bring along a friend, a Polaroid camera (or film camera), and fun dress-up clothes. Take turns snapping photos of each other in various outfits and create your own mini photoshoot!

Spa Day Treat yourself to a relaxing day full of self-pampering. You don't have to spend a fortune on a mani/pedi— apply Minx nails instead, which hit the runway at Paris Fashion Week, and took center stage at both Alexander McQueen and Gareth Pugh.

Take a Road Trip Feel the wind in your hair, the freedom of the open road... sometimes it feels great just to escape for a long weekend and forget all the stresses at home, work and everyday life. One of my favorite trips is to drive on the Pacific Coast Highway (highway 101/route 1) to California. This is one of the most scenic drives you will ever do, with numerous quaint coastal towns, national parks, and plenty of motels and places to camp. Just throw a sleeping bag, toothbrush, change of clothes, your guitar and snacks into your trunk, and off you go! Another great way to see this route is by motorcycle— you can rent one and take lessons from places like Mountain to Sound Motorcycle Adventures.

Volunteer It always feels good to help someone else— whether it be the homeless man you pass by daily, a friend, or a complete stranger. Just stop by a local soup kitchen and offer to help pass out food. You can also volunteer at a hospital, school or animal shelter, or pick up trash in your community. Something that has been weighing on my heart the past couple days is the earthquake that hit Port Au Prince, Haiti on Tuesday. So many people are in need of basic medical supplies, food, water, and shelter, and need our help! You can donate in $5 or $10 increments through text message to six different charities like the Red Cross and International Medical Corps. Also your phone carrier most likely won't charge you an SMS fee, and all donations will be charged through your monthly wireless bill. Already $7 million has been donated to charity relief organizations in Haiti through text messaging...keep up the good work!
