If there is one thing I have a lot of in my closet, it's shoes. Living in the relatively dark and rainy Northwest I tend to wear a lot of black— it's my signature color— but I find I can dress up any outfit with shoes that have a splash of color, interesting design, or detail. To me shoes should be conversation starters...maybe it's because I'm not amazon-supermodel-tall, but I could live in heels anyday. Heels make any pair of legs look longer and slimmer! Yes they may not be completely practical, but fashion isn't supposed to always be practical. It's supposed to be fun, outrageous and push the envelope. Now a quote from the woman with an enviable amount of shoes...
"I did not have three thousand pairs of shoes, I had one thousand and sixty." — Imelda Marcos
♡Find a shoe with a unique detail, like these bows
♡Cowgirl boots are really popular this season and will only continue to be as spring hits...my favorite are the half-boot which only go to above your ankle and can be paired with skinny's or a summery dress. I especially like boots that have studs or another fun detail.
♡Over-the-knee I have been wanting to talk about thigh-high boots since day 1 of my blog...finally the day has arrived! I am not sure exactly where I first saw a pair of these, but I immediately wanted some. It's one of those things you want so bad you dream about it... you can find boots that don't go all the way above the knee and may be more street ready (and less stripperesque), and also don't have a heel. Because these boots are so outrageous and tall, pair them with more understated accessories and neutral or dark colors.
♡Spikes&Studs really want to make a fashion statement? The first pic are the mary jane Louboutin for Rodarte illegal heels that were rolling down the runway in 2008. And you wonder why they call them illegal!
♡Louis Vuitton Tribal Heels These were my other favorite fashion statement shoes from the past year... seen on the likes of Victoria Beckham, Kanye West's muse Amber Rose, and Madonna (who was the face of Louis Vuitton when these heels were debuted in 2009). I specifically remember seeing this ad for the first time, after a long day of work in Hawaii. I was walking past Louis Vuitton, which is next door to where I worked, and I went inside in my not-so-high-fashion work clothes and asked to try them on. Of course I would never be able to afford them, but seeing them on my feet was enough for me!
♡Socks & Heels? Now I know what your thinking... fashion faux pas right? wrong! I have had to eat my words: a few years ago my dad took me shopping for heels for prom. After I picked out my pumps, he asked what socks would go with my them. Since then it has been a running joke in my family, and now he's proven me wrong! I never thought I would see the day when heels and socks went together, but I actually love this look paired with a secretarial skirt and peter-pan collared blouse.
♡One-of-a-kind Pumps the above shoes are unique and would make you stop and stare on the street. This is what I mean by conversation starters...the second picture is from Guo Pei's 2010 winter collection: these geometric masterpieces are full of beadwork, texture, and tons of height (reminds me of what Geisha woman used to wear in Japan) and although aren't exactly comfortable shoes for a night out on the town, would look great in the right editorial.
♡Flat Oxfords would you wear these? I have noticed a lot of girls wearing oxfords this season...they remind me of the 40's and the menswear-inspired look. If you remember, high-heeled oxfords were a HUGE footwear trend a few seasons ago after Luella famously sent them down the runway in 2007. This year, instead of just neutral colors, colored oxfords (or brogues) come in many colors: classic black&whites, brights, and metallics. Some of my favorites are from Urban Outfitters.
Have a shoe-filled Sunday! ❤ Lindsay
