Modern Day Muse

DOUTZEN KROES

First appearing on the scene as "Model of the Year" by Vogue readers in 2005, Doutzen Kroes is originally from The Netherlands. I first noticed her at Fashion Week in that same year, but she wasn't really recognized until May 2007 when she appeared on the cover of Vogue with 9 other models, deemed the new crop of "supermodels." She has since been on the covers of Time, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Glamour, W, and essentially every major fashion mag in the world. She has many campaigns for top fashion houses like Gucci, Dolce&Gabbana, and Versace, and has walked the runway for virtually every well-known designer. In 2008 Victoria's Secret announced her as the newest member of the Victoria's Secret Angels.

So what makes her a muse? To me it is the fact that she is recognized as a "curvy" model (size 6) and has a very unique look. She does a lot of charity and non-profit work for her Dutch homeland, and is not just another pretty face— she writes a monthly column and has single-handedly become 5th in the list of the world's 15 top-earning supermodels.
