B & W

Black and White.
I first fell in love with the grainy texture of black and white photos after finding some of my grandmother from her wedding day. As cheesy as it sounds, there is something very real and honest about no color photographs, and the way people's soul seems to seep out. The photos have a timeless quality to them. Unlike color photographs, black and white plays with shadows and light— the most important element of a photograph.
"Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever...it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything."

Parting Gift: check out this website called stuffwhitepeoplelike.com. It is kind of irritatingly accurate...some of my favorites are #125 Bob Marley, #118 Ugly Sweater Parties and #75 Threatening to move to Canada.

Have a colorful afternoon

Tough Chicks

I just went and saw "The Runaways" a couple nights ago and was really inspired by it...if you don't know, the movie is about the first popular all-girl rock band The Runaways, where Joan Jett got her start before going solo. It was a really honest movie, depicting all the stuff you'd expect to go on with rock 'n roll...sex and drugs. But there was more to it than that— to me it was about these really tough, independent young girls who weren't mainstream at all, and just went after their passion for music when rock n' roll was a completely male dominated world. They owned their image of these sexy, badass girls, and it got me thinking how important strong women are. It takes effort to be different and bold, and not just 'follow the pack.'

This weeks theme is the late 70's/ early 80's feel of rock 'n roll, the culture of music as a whole, and everything taboo that comes with it (i.e. tattoos)... plus some great goodies to check out!

Feature film starring Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning (yes, that cute little girl from I Am Sam)

The original Runaways. From left to right: Sandy West, Micki Steele, Cherie Currie, Lita Ford, Joan Jett

THE LOOK & FEEL

TATTOOS:
alternative model Sarah Miller

FINDS
I love these sunglasses from SABRE...they are the Kozoi model in tortoise shell and gold.

⚡ Feathers! I cannot seem to get enough... I have been tying a couple into my hair lately below one ear, but I found these amazing feather earrings from Cardi Beutler which are actually synthetic, so no little birdies were killed in the process...e-mail her at: cardibeutler@hotmail.com

Ankle Cowboy boots...a great alternative to the full-length boot. I pair mine with leggings or skinny jeans, but will be great with floral summer dresses as it gets warmer! Nordstrom has the best selection I have seen so far, but there will be more and more options as summer rolls around.
