Summer 2011

Faux Fur Vest.

I bought one online recently from Karmaloop that I absolutely love from Blaque Label that was relatively cheap. A must have, not only for cold nights, but you can put it over a tank top or even a bikini (no I'm not crazy).

Fishtail Braid.

Saw this picture and thought it was a fun twist on the fishtail braid concept. They are pretty easy to do once you get the hang of it, and Free People has a fun video on how to learn online on youtube for their April 2011 collection. The only braid I have done all summer-- you can pull pieces out too to make it look bed-head messy.

Nail Art.

This is the only way I do my nails now. Never have to go to the salon again. The first image is Sally Hansen's Salon Effects nail polish strips that I tried out last week in a chic leopard print that I picked up from Rite Aid. Took me probably 5 minutes at most to do all 10 nails. The second picture is after I used OPI's "Black Shatter" nail polish. You paint any color on your nails, and once it's dry, paint one coat of the black shatter on top and it creates this effect. I think they just came out with "Silver Shatter" too.

Brigitte Bardot Hair.

She is one of my fashion icons...not just for her hair, but her entire look. Big hair is in for summer though, and is easily achieved through--here's the secret-- hot rollers! Even though it is 2011, the best way to get this big hair and soft curls is the old-fashioned way. Blow-dry hair upside down with a volumizing mousse and then put hot rollers in a row of 3 along the top of your head, and the rest down the sides. Then tease the crown for height. Dry shampoo works really well too if your hair is fine.

Ponchos.

Not much to say here except they are great as a beach cover-up! I just bought one for about $20 at Forever 21 in downtown Seattle and have worn it a number of times already. You can find more summery and lighter ones than the one pictured here.

Crochet Shorts.
Some great finds at Urban Outfitters for cool shorts that are alternatives to denim!

Bill Cunningham.

Truly one of the most inspirational people to me. If you don't know who Bill is, go see the documentary out right now in theaters about his life--you won't regret it. He is one of the few people who sees the fashion world and business for what it really is...the clothes, not the people. He inspired me to write this blog today, and whenever I am wearing an outfit I think other people will judge, all I have to do is remember Bill and go for it!

Casey Loza.

I first saw Casey in a episode of (gasp!) The Hills, and thought "what is a girl like her with full-sleeve tattoos doing on this show??" Then I saw her a couple weeks ago on the new reality show Audrina and discovered she is Audrina Patridge's younger sister. And pretty much the opposite of her sister. I googled her to find out a little more about her, and discovered she has a blog called "Filthy Ego" which was just her thoughts, inspirations, and daily life. I love her style, her family-oriented lifestyle, and am excited to see her make-up line that is coming out. Check out an article about her and her family in Inked Magazine appropriately titled "Modern Family."

My Dream Room.
wouldn't it be amazing to feel like your sleeping underwater? I would love to feel that close to the ocean.

Why Don't You Love Me?

I came across this video today and thought it was a clever theme and something that hasn't been done before. It's Beyonce's new music video "Why Don't You Love Me?"— it has such a 40's and 50's theme and the intro feels like your watching an old tv show with Rosie the Riveter!
